Welcome to SWF Men' Shed

The grand opening of the South Woodham Ferrers Men's Shed on the 4th of April! Thank you everyone for coming and the hard work of the members to get the place ready (still much more work to be done).

Our very own town Councillor Donna Eley had the honour of cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening of the shed, setting the stage for an amazing journey ahead.

David Shea, the Chair of SWF Men's Shed, took the floor to express heartfelt gratitude to the community for their unwavering support. Special thanks were extended to Mr. Douglas Green of the Mister Gees Foundation for spearheading this initiative and providing valuable financial backing and securing the premises to June 2025.

David Shea has now become our Fundraiser along with Roger Little, and the Chair is now John Bevan

What types of events do you host?

We include woodworking workshops, training in the use of workshop equipment so that you are competent in using it. Come and take part in various projects, crafting, technology and more.

Do you offer mentorship programs?

Yes, we have mentorship programs where experienced craftsmen guide and support those seeking to improve their skills.

Do you want training or just a buddy to talk to or make things with?

Would you like to be a Mentor or be Mentored? Let us know!

Do you need people with skills?

Yes & No!

If you haven't any skills, don't worry, just come for a cuppa, however...

Skills are always sought, especially if you can share your enthusiasm with others.

We will encourage you to use your skills, or gain some, here in a safe environment, where, hopefully, you will also encourage others to share your skills.

How much does it cost to join?

Nothing for the first few sessions.

  • Please visit us! No need to pay a membership to get started, but we do ask for a contribution to the tea and coffee fund! Stay for a chat and a tour or stay for the session. You are very welcome to come anytime we are open.
  • If you can donate to become a member, it's £24 for the year.

When are you open?

Great question.

  • We ARE OPEN soon on a Monday's, Tuesday's and Thursdays
    • 10:00 to 13:00
    • If we can get more Supervisors, it could be afternoons too, or even every day!
  • This is still work in progress!
  • Please call for more information, or pop in on a Monday or Tuesday, our quiet mornings!

I hear you want Supervisors. Why?

This is a place for men of all ages, to come and have some time out. No kids, no women, no alcohol.

Have a cuppa, share some stories, share a skill, learn a skill, or try something new.

But that’s where we need supervisors. To come and open up the place, to welcome us in.

You don’t need to have woodworking skills, no crafting skills, just a little enthusiasm will get you started, get US ALL started!

We NEED you.

Come on, make a difference.

Call, text, email, or pop your details into us, and we can show you more.

Can I come in with my wheelchair?

Yes, you can!  The Community Hub has just installed a toilet with wheelchair access, but if you want access to the Workshop and the use of the equipment in there, you may be required to bring a workshop Buddy.  We don't have enough Supervisors to give a one-to-one mentoring currently, so please get in touch.

“I never knew I could learn so much from others until I joined a Men's Shed. The support and knowledge sharing in this community is truly remarkable. I'm grateful to have found such a welcoming and inspiring group of people.”
